About Anais Amin

Anais Amin is a Los Angeles-based professional with a journalism, marketing, and community service background. She holds a Master’s in Journalism from Columbia University and has experience in radio production, brand management, and advocacy. Anais is also interested in storytelling, social justice, and uses her platform to create positive change.

Anais was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and pursued a Bachelor of Arts in English. While at UCLA, she became involved in student government and leadership. She was among 14 paid and elected council members, representing over 30,000 undergraduate students.

Her role in student government allowed her to champion social justice, higher education access, and mental health services for returning veterans. She also worked to promote social justice awareness and education on campus, managing a staff of 40 volunteers to implement these platforms. Additionally, she moderated a political debate between candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Anais furthered her education at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, earning her Master of Science degree in 2020. At Columbia, she majored in audio, text, and video journalism.

Her academic work includes a 5,000-word master’s project about a Syrian refugee family’s journey to the U.S. This was complemented by a published story about her family’s escape from genocide and a video project on medication-assisted recovery.

During her time at Columbia, Anais also reported and covered civil and criminal courts in the Bronx, producing investigative stories on subjects like sexual abuse in Orthodox schools and the excessive use of force by private security guards.

Anais began her career in radio production, gaining invaluable experience working with some of the leading names in the industry. From January 2022 to December 2022, she worked as a production assistant at Marketplace, an award-winning public radio program produced by American Public Media (APM).

At Marketplace, Anais researched and pitched interview topics, pre-interviewed potential guests, and edited audio segments. Her work included writing scripts for the hosts, producing digital content for the company’s website, and collaborating with other producers on content development. She also researched and produced same-day interviews and first-person audio essays.

Before working as a full-time production assistant, Anais Amin interned at Marketplace from June to December 2021. As a production intern, she contributed to the program by researching and booking guests, writing show rundowns, and editing interviews for air. She also helped create digital content for the Marketplace website.

Anais also worked as a production assistant at KPFK Radio 90.7 FM from 2017 to 2019. At KPFK, she booked and interviewed scholars and experts who could provide academic and scientific insights, from social and political issues to economics and science. She pitched and developed weekly show topics, edited interviews, and created one-hour radio segments that met broadcast quality standards.
