About Anais Amin
Anais Amin is a Los Angeles-based professional with a journalism, marketing, and community service background. She holds a Master’s in Journalism from Columbia University and has experience in radio production, brand management, and advocacy. Anais is also interested in storytelling, social justice, and uses her platform to create positive change.
Early Life and Education
Anais was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and pursued a Bachelor of Arts in English. While at UCLA, she became involved in student government and leadership. She was among 14 paid and elected council members, representing over 30,000 undergraduate students.
Her role in student government allowed her to champion social justice, higher education access, and mental health services for returning veterans. She also worked to promote social justice awareness and education on campus, managing a staff of 40 volunteers to implement these platforms. Additionally, she moderated a political debate between candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Anais furthered her education at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, earning her Master of Science degree in 2020. At Columbia, she majored in audio, text, and video journalism.
Her academic work includes a 5,000-word master’s project about a Syrian refugee family’s journey to the U.S. This was complemented by a published story about her family’s escape from genocide and a video project on medication-assisted recovery.
During her time at Columbia, Anais also reported and covered civil and criminal courts in the Bronx, producing investigative stories on subjects like sexual abuse in Orthodox schools and the excessive use of force by private security guards.
Professional Career in Radio Production
Anais began her career in radio production, gaining invaluable experience working with some of the leading names in the industry. From January 2022 to December 2022, she worked as a production assistant at Marketplace, an award-winning public radio program produced by American Public Media (APM).
At Marketplace, Anais researched and pitched interview topics, pre-interviewed potential guests, and edited audio segments. Her work included writing scripts for the hosts, producing digital content for the company’s website, and collaborating with other producers on content development. She also researched and produced same-day interviews and first-person audio essays.
Before working as a full-time production assistant, Anais Amin interned at Marketplace from June to December 2021. As a production intern, she contributed to the program by researching and booking guests, writing show rundowns, and editing interviews for air. She also helped create digital content for the Marketplace website.
Anais also worked as a production assistant at KPFK Radio 90.7 FM from 2017 to 2019. At KPFK, she booked and interviewed scholars and experts who could provide academic and scientific insights, from social and political issues to economics and science. She pitched and developed weekly show topics, edited interviews, and created one-hour radio segments that met broadcast quality standards.
Career in Marketing and Branding
In addition to her work in journalism and production, Anais has also excelled in marketing and brand management. She currently works as the Marketing and Brand Manager for a fashion manufacturer, managing multi-million-dollar accounts, leading marketing campaigns, and acting as a sales representative on behalf of the company.
Previous Roles
Prior to her role as a brand manager, Anais was an executive assistant at Pacific Dental Lab, Inc., in Thousand Oaks, California, in 2017. She oversaw marketing strategies, handled accounting matters, and completed various operations in this organization. She also liaised between management and staff, moderating worker conflicts and ensuring business operations ran smoothly.
Anais also worked as a PR and marketing intern for The Borgen Project, which focused on reducing poverty worldwide. In this role, Anais helped secure support from California senators and Congressional representatives for legislation aimed at poverty reduction. Her work involved creating targeted outreach materials, such as YouTube videos and social media campaigns, to engage political leaders and advocates for the cause.
Community Engagement and Volunteer Work
Anais has volunteered at various organizations, including animal shelters and a horse ranch for special needs children. She has also been actively involved in political and social causes. In 2009, she volunteered for the local political campaign of Paul Krekorian, a California State Representative. She also donated to several causes, including the Children of Armenia Fund (COAF), the GoFundMe campaigns for journalists Brent Renaud and Juan Arredondo, and REBUILD THE BLOCK, which supports Black-owned small businesses.
Personal Life and Hobbies
In addition to her work in journalism and marketing, Anais is a professionally trained oil painter. One of her most notable works was unveiled during an event where she shared her largest piece of art to date. Anais also enjoys photography, which complements her artistic endeavors and allows her to capture the world from unique perspectives.
In addition, Anais is passionate about the outdoors. She enjoys spending time in nature, visiting museums, and exploring new cultures.
Anais is fluent in Armenian and English and is working on improving her Spanish skills.
